April 21, 2008I was catching up with a friend from high school and we started talking about what it is that draws us to our respective fields of study. Tom is a biology student in Montreal; I’m an Engineering student studying an Electrical specialty here in Golden, CO at the School of Mines.
For me, it might just be Topsy:
It’s not that I think Edison’s propaganda was like, the coolest thing ever. It’s more the feeling that Electrical Engineering has such a rich -albeit colorful- history behind it. The story of Tesla and Edison draws me to this field like a rotating magnetic field. My amortisseur windings induce me to spin gaily, self-correcting to stay on my chosen path. Seriously though, I love this field.
My field is filled with sparking lights and little black boxes of mystery that do something to make the world work as it does. I can make a machine spin in order to turn lights on. I can do it with water or wind or simple sunlight.
Electricity is just so damn cool.

What about you guys?
