Lego Indiana Jones!

May 21, 2008

I must admit, that looks pretty rad. I’ve been in love with the Lego games since my first sample of Lego Star Wars at approximately 2am on a Sunday morning during my freshman year of college. For those of you unfamiliar with my collegiate experiences, that would be at the illustrious Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

It’s easy to see from the above trailer that the game will poke light-hearted fun at the movie franchise. For those of you unfamiliar with the Lego Star Wars game sequence, the cut scenes in it are similarly amusing.

I recently acquired the Lego Star Wars game for my Nintendo DS and it is excellent.  The game lacks a cluebat to keep me on track -a “failing” that I’m most thankful for.  That and the lack of penalties for losses of life and missing level timer conspire to keep me entertained.  I’m not afraid of jumping off the side of anything just to see what’s there.  Everything about the game leaves me free to fully explore all of the levels.

Added to this is the opportunity to make weak-ass characters totally r0xx0r.  I like to take control of the Jedi “extras” in the big battle scenes and make them the heroes of the level.  It’s pretty excellent to be in control of Padme and repeatedly murder Anakin too.

My favorite was when Anakin fell off a moving platform into the lava below.  As the uncontrolled character, he continued to spawn where he died…continually missing the platform!

But I digress.

Lego Indiana Jones promises the same sort of gameplay experience but I question whether or not there are enough characters in the franchise to be entertaining.  Maybe I get to play Reggie?
